Martin Bonney
Hey there! I'm Martin Bonney, a passionate Ph.D. candidate at the Royal College of Art and a proud Fellow at the Royal Anthropological Institute. I'm deeply engrossed in researching sustainable craft, focusing on how craft-assembled communities operate, their unique practices, and the incredible products they create. My work is driven by a desire to find meaningful insights that can empower social justice in the face of our global climate crisis.
When I'm not buried in research, you can find me happily stitching away. I'm an avid craft practitioner with a special love for embroidery, though I'm always excited to dabble in different mediums. Through my developing art practice, I strive to embrace these values, using my work as a catalyst for social change and environmental awareness.
Before diving into my Ph.D., I had the fantastic opportunity to lead the BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles program at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. There, I balanced the delicate art of traditional handcraft with cutting-edge textiles, all within the vibrant cultural mix of Southeast Asia with a global twist.
My journey has taken me through the rich design landscapes of Singapore, fostering positive cultural exchanges and integrating cross-disciplinary practices. I thrive on enhancing student engagement and building communities of practice that span the globe.
I'm always excited about new collaborations and ideas. If you share a passion for craft, sustainability, or just want to chat about the latest embroidery techniques, feel free to get in touch!
